7 Incredible Differences I Noticed After Going Plant-Based
When I decided to make the switch from a vegetarian diet to a plant-based one, I was expecting some major changes—but I didn’t anticipate how dramatic they would be! From improved energy and alertness, to strength and weight loss, my body seems to have benefited most from the switch. Read on to find out more about the differences I’ve felt since going plant-based.
Increased energy levels after going plant-based
One of the major changes I noticed after going plant-based was an influx of energy. With a diet rich in vegetables, legumes and plant proteins, my body had instant access to nutrients that were more easily digested. Although there was an initial adjustment period where I felt fatigued and a lack of energy, soon enough these feelings passed and I felt revitalized with more alertness and overall vitality.
Improved digestive health
Since giving up animal products, I noticed a difference in my digestive health and the speed my body was able to digest foods. Eating plant-based encourages me to focus on eating more fibre-rich produce and whole grains which can help increase beneficial gut bacteria, aid digestion and reduce inflammation. Coupled with drinking plenty of water and implementing healthier lifestyle choices, going plant-based has definitely improved how my digestive system works after many years of discomfort.
Improved mental clarity and focus
Personally, the biggest difference I noticed after going plant-based was an increase in mental clarity and focus. After years of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, I’ve become much better at staying on task, overcoming procrastination and tackling to-do lists without getting mentally drained. And it all comes back to one simple thing – planning my meals! Without a doubt, eating nutrient-rich and vitamin-filled foods aided by the lack of processed ingredients helps me stay focused during work and recreation more effectively.
Reduction in skin issues and allergies
Another dramatic difference I experienced while going plant-based was a reduction in skin issues such as acne and eczema. This could have something to do with the lack of dairy, eggs and cow’s milk in my diet. But regardless, I noticed a much clearer complexion with reduced oiliness and redness. And surprisingly enough, allergic reactions caused by pollen also began to disappear after making the switch!
Weight loss and muscle definition after going plant-based
Initially, going plant-based was more about being kinder to animals and less about health and weight loss. But I did notice a difference on the scale after just a few weeks: I was able to shed pounds without even really trying! In addition, my muscle definition has much more apparent very quickly due to the increase in plant proteins from lentils, beans, quinoa, tofu, tempeh and nutritional yeast. This helps me gain energy and strength with every workout session – is further motivating me to pursue a more active lifestyle!
